Attention aspiring sorcerers, sorceresses, and cursed spirits! We have an official teaser out and announcements for season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen, with a long-anticipated release date, targeted for the summer of 2023.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series, written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers to eliminate a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host.
In this series, all human beings have the potential to harbor ‘Cursed Energy’, which arises from negative emotions that naturally flow throughout the body. Ordinary people cannot control this energy flow within their bodies, and as a result, they expend buildups of Cursed Energy. The release of this energy results in the birth of Curses, Noroi, a race of spiritual beings whose purpose for existence is to bring harm to humanity. These curses manifest as gruesome monsters.
Jujutsu Sorcerers are people who control the flow of Cursed Energy in their bodies, allowing them to bend it to their will, as well as reducing the impact of its release. High-ranking Sorcerers and Curses can refine this energy and use it to perform Cursed Techniques, which tend to be unique to the user or their family. A highly advanced form of Cursed Technique is Domain Expansion, which enables practitioners to build a pocket dimension of variable size. Inside the domain, their attacks connect and grow immensely in strength.
We last met with our heroes: Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara in season 1, episode 24, in March of 2021. In the aftermath of battle, the season concludes with their recommendation of promotion to Grade 1 Sorcerers, a mole hunt for a nefarious double agent, and a looming top-secret mission. This period is the Death Painting Arc, which ran from chapters 55-64.

Released on the official Twitter account, the first piece of season 2 art was revealed. The post features Gojo and Geto as students, indicating an adaptation of Gojo’s Past Arc, derived from chapters 65-79 of the manga. This Arc revolves around a mission Gojo and Geto are tasked with, escorting a star plasma vessel to Tengen as Cursed User groups conspire against them.
Season 2 will also adapt the Shibuya Incident Arc, Chapters 79-136, and revolves around an all-out attempt to seal Gojo for good. Expect a lot of action, civilian casualties, and unending adventure that will blow you out of your seat. This is one of the top-rated arcs by hardcore Jujutsu Kaisen fans and is arguably one of the best in anime!
Where can I watch Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 before Season 2 comes out?
At the time of writing this article, all 24 episodes of the first season are available to watch on Crunchyroll. Voted Anime of the Year at the 5th Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and the second most watched series on the platform, it is definitely worth re-watching and tuning in this summer.
